Every Razorback Has a Beginning
Some journeys begin with a dream that grows stronger over time.
For Doreen Watts, becoming a teacher was inspired by the educators who made a lasting impact on her own life. Their kindness, encouragement, and belief in her planted a seed that would eventually grow into a calling to serve young learners.
For 12 years, Doreen faithfully supported students as a paraprofessional in the ABC Program while continuing to pursue her goal of leading a classroom of her own. Through those years of service, she gained invaluable experience, built meaningful relationships, and prepared for the opportunity she had always envisioned.
Today, that dream has become a reality.
As a first-year Kindergarten Teacher at Kilpatrick Academy of Public Service, Doreen is beginning a new chapter where she can make the same difference in the lives of her students that her teachers once made in hers.
"I was inspired by the wonderful teachers who made a lasting impact on my life. Their kindness, encouragement, and belief in me motivated me to become a teacher so I could make the same difference in the lives of my students. My goal is to create a classroom where every child feels safe, loved, confident, and excited to learn. I believe that if I can positively impact even one child, I have made a difference."
For Doreen, teaching is more than a profession, it's an opportunity to encourage, inspire, and help children discover the joy of learning from the very beginning of their educational journey.
